Principalmente em concreto massa (grandes volumes) a falta de refrigeração pode gerar fissuras, que são decorrentes, principalmente, de duas questões principais:
1. Origem térmica (retração térmica)
2. Etringita tardia (temperatura acima de 65°C, formam-se cristais de etringita, o que provoca tração no concreto e fissura)
Como evitar estas fissuras?
1. Reduzir o consumo de cimento ao mínimo (com um bom traço)
2. Usar cimento de baixo calor de hidratação.
3. Concretar em camadas de menor altura (exemplo: 50 cm de altura a cada três dias).
4. Estudar o emprego da pré-refrigeração do concreto (gelo ou nitrogênio líquido)
